Adolescent Residential Program

What's involved in Residential Drug Rehab at PaRC?

Residential drug rehab usually, but not always, follows a short detox stay at PaRC. Typical lengths of stay in our Residential Program are 30-45 days. In PaRC's residential treatment program, your child will receive a minimum of 35 hours of planned, structured activities per week.

Our evidence-based curriculum includes:
  • On-Site High School Academics through Southwest Charter School
  • Medical & Psychiatric Support Services
  • Individual Counseling
  • Group Counseling
  • Addiction Education Groups
  • Extensive Family Education & Counseling
  • Relapse Prevention
  • Life Skills Education
  • 12-Step Support Group Meeting
  • Comprehensive Discharge Planning
"Each time we visit the PaRC we can see signs of our son - our true son - returning. It is in his eyes mostly."  ~Veronica M., August 2010

What is it like inside PaRC's residential drug rehab?

The Atmosphere
Your teen must be able to focus on recovery in an environment that is comfortable, safe and supportive. We make it a point to create an inviting, family-like atmosphere that your teen will feel comfortable in. We use positive behavior management techniques that are supportive and encourage your teen to engage in treatment and focus on the reason they are here.

Teens have a daily schedule of education and counseling groups, therapeutic hands on activities and recreation time as well. Your child's daily schedule changes day-to-day and week-to-week to promote their interest & engagement and prevent boredom.

Security
Your teen’s safety and confidentiality is one of our highest priorities. Our facility is a restricted-access, secured facility. The unit is secured, but it is not "locked down" – our teens do not express feeling “trapped” in treatment. The unit is equipped with a state-of-the-art security system that monitors all areas inside and outside the facility. We also have security staff on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Rooms
Your teen will have a semi-private room. Each room is comfortably arranged to accommodate two teens with beds, desks, and clothing storage. Each room also has a large bathroom. PaRC’s housekeeping staff will ensure that your teen’s accommodations are clean and comfortable. Your teen will do their own laundry, pick up after themselves and make their bed every day - a new experience for many teens!

Meals
Many teens who have been using addictive substances have not been eating right. It is important for your child to receive proper nutrition in the first stages of recovery; the body and brain need healthy foods to repair themselves. PaRC’s award-winning dietary team provides three balanced meals a day plus multiple snacks. A fresh, high-variety salad bar is offered every day as well.

Your teen will also receive nutrition education and learn about healthy eating habits. While in treatment, teens do not have access to caffeinated beverages - elimination of caffeine helps them stay focused on the education and counseling they are receiving.

Family
You are part of your teen's treatment team and we encourage family to participate in the treatment program as much as possible. Family members will be engaged in many families education and counseling groups through PaRC's robust family rehab program. Paula VanDyke, MA, is our dedicated adolescent program family counselor. Paula is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who will help your family get through this time in your child's life.

We also know that you want to see your child while in treatment. Family is welcome to visit during designated Visiting Hours. Your child can also earn Therapeutic Passes which can be used to visit with family off campus.

 Equine Therapy
Hands-On Therapeutic Activities and Recreation
Teens learn best with hands-on therapeutic activities. We incorporate many into our program including Group Empowerment DrummingEquine Therapy, Art Therapy and Psychodrama. Your teen will also enjoy recreational activities such as PaRC's music room; movie theater trips; Hermann Park and Bear Creek Park excursions; visits to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Arts; activities at the YMCA; and community service at the Way Station

Our program also addresses physical wellness through regular Health Education Groups, Meditation Groups, Yoga in Recovery, fitness room access, outdoor fitness and recreational activities such as basketball and volleyball.
